I got my first Lumos Ultra helmet thru the original kickstarter campaign. I always liked the fit and the lights. A couple months ago I had a bike accident. I hurt my hands (they are still sore) scraped my face up, and destroyed my Cannondale road bike (bent the frame and popped multiple welds) What I didn't do was get a concussion from hitting my head! My helmet did suffer damage and needed to be replaced. I am sure other helmets could have performed as well, but my experience led me to purchase another Lumos Ultra.

It’s a cool product but it’s NOT worth the premium price.
Pros:
-Very bright
-Very strong magnets keep them attached to your bike

Cons:
- Battery life depletes very fast.
- Charging takes a long time and is a pain in the ass (must be charged wirelessly with cradle or 4-pack — NOT USB-C.
- 4-pack
- is not in any way travel friendly; it folds only partially about is very bulky and kept close with a cheap magnetic strap.
- the lights can also overheat when charging and just stop charging
- the UX is also very cumbersome (picking flash patterns, syncing, etc)
- the brake light feature is also VERY sensitive (even if I am not braking, it will activate and deplete the battery faster. I can’t figure out how to turn that feature off,.

The padding was very easy to replace and still feel very confident in the helmet I wear and purchased. Very prompt and a pleasure to work with.

I love the helmet but I recommend the next:
- Visor Rain Repellent: it’s so difficult to see under the rain with the visor
- improve the battery life of the helmet: I use the helmet every day, in the morning and in the evening (almost 2 hours per day), and the battery run out so quickly, which forces me to only use it at night

I ordered the Firefly lights and the cradle, and then I waited. I sent the support two emails asking for my order with zero response. And when it finally came it doesn’t work as promised. According to the manual it should take 5 hours to fully charge the light. I have now been waiting for more than 14 hours. I am about to give up on this company. You have been warned.

There is no way to return an item. Every link I was sent simply does not work. The website provides no clear information on how to find the return address.

After reporting the problem to PayPal, I received an automated response referring me to the same link, which still does not work.

Absolutely frustrating. Never again!

I’ve been using the Lumos Ultra Smart E-Bike Helmet for a while now, and I’m increasingly unhappy with it.

The biggest issue is comfort. The helmet simply doesn’t sit comfortably on my head — even after adjusting the fit system, I’m left with an uncomfortable pressure feeling. On longer rides this becomes genuinely bothersome.

The second problem is the visor. It just doesn’t do its job for me: wind still hits my eyes while riding, and since I have sensitive eyes, they start watering regularly at any decent speed. That’s exactly what I expected the visor to prevent, and it fails right there.

The lighting features might be a nice selling point for this helmet, but a helmet first and foremost needs to fit well and protect properly. For the price, I expect a lot more. I’m now seriously considering switching to a competitor’s product.

These guys know their stuff. Would have liked magnet close mechanism but otherwise it’s just perfect. Had the version with the crash detections stuff earlier. That does not work with the lomus app but the partners app. Really a shame, just too many things that don’t works. This one is spot on!

This is my second Lumos helmet and I did not pay enough attention to the new style in which the front signals are removed! I ride in urban settings and allowing those approaching me to know my intentions is better. … First helmet was through kickstarter will ko longer take a charge after 4yrs. … When this helmet no longer charges I will move on to another brand.

I got this replacement under warranty. Shipment was quick and device works nicely

Love the helmet and feel just that bit safer with the lights on and the indicators are an added bonus.

In service date of July 17, 2025. I have had my Ultra E-bike Helmet (MIPS), turn signal Remote sensor, 4 Firefly Mini and 2 Firefly (large) just over one year. I am a believer that visibility is the No. 1 Factor in Bike Safety! A helmet is a huge component but lighting is a preventative measure. If vehicle drivers and even people walking see me on my e-bike they get a visual cue that there is something there to avoid.

Added to the list of Lumos things, I also have the Apple Watch Lumos App that utilizes gestures to turn on/off the turn signals. In my case it csn use my helmet and 2 Firefly Minis on each side of my e-bike. I notice that, even after 1-year, it remains in Beta Test. I would hope it becomes fully integrated so. It works well about 80% of the time. Given that their competitors don’t have it 80% is very good! My critique is the turn dignal control seems to get pushed out of the way when other apps cause a conflict. My e-bike has an app, if I’m on a new trail I might use Apple’s Maps, Apple Watch is tracking the cycling activity, I listen to Apple Music and there are other things like FindMy, Health, Messaging, and others working in the background.

It makes me think there is a need for an e-bike information sharing architecture that makes integration of all these application silos to play well together.

The E-bike Ultra helmet is very good to wear. It feels light in the head. My head feels well ventilated so I thing the air flow is great. No over heating and I have rode in very hot and humid air. Last fall I was able to ride into mid-November in 45F temps and I didn't put the winter liner in and felt fine.

I love the visor. I hear people complain but none from me. I do a lot of trail rides and I an in and out of wooded areas and into open wild grassy areas. I live in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” so water is all around. Lakes, rivers, streams and even swamps. All of these areas have a TON of insects that can jump and a lot fly. From June into September, the bugs are in the air, ready to hit you in the face and many are bug enough for you to feel it. Instead of hitting my face or go in my mouth they go, “Sha-thump,” and bounce off the visor and helmet.

True story, last week s bug hit the helmet and some made it into the an air vent and was caught on the MIPS (now MIPS can be a bug shield, too).

No crashes, knock on wood, so I can’t provide any crash testimonials. I just strap it on, turn on the lights and go have fun.

Superior quality. Great tech. So much more than your average cycling helmet.

I purchased two firefly lights a couple months ago. (Pretty expensive) and one of them stopped working. I contacted Lumos, whoever and wherever they are, and they replaced the light, after I sent a video showing that it didn’t work. The lights function very well. I have had a Lumos helmet for a few years and it has always functioned well. I’m not sure if they make me more safe since drivers pay no attention to anything. I hope the helmet and tail lights make me more safe and visible. I know that when I see another cyclist they generally have a small tail light that is not very bright or easy to see. I think with a Lumos helmet and taillight/turn signals I am much more visible and there is more of a chance that I won’t be crushed by a speeding car. As long as the driver isn’t impaired by drugs/alcohol, or texting. Safe travels to the Lumos community.

I've been using this helmet since 2 weeks but I already like the helmet for it's light weight, easy magnetic closing mechanism and the magnetic light on the back. It cannot completely replace my ultra helmet since the ultra has front light, but I really appreciate the weight loss of the Aero GT. I would buy it again and I can recommend it for daily commute.
